There are two methods of cropping a single layer in photopea
It is a little bit more complicated than the other methods, but once you learn it, you’ll be able to apply it to any future project without a problem.
Let’s begin with our first method.
Method 1
First, select your layer that you want to crop and convert it into smart-object by right click on the selective layer and it will give you a list of options select convert to smart object or
select your layer and then go to the layer from the menu select smart-object and then select convert to smart object.
Now open the smart-object layer by double click on the layer
or go-to layer from the menu bar and select smart-object a drop-down menu will appear then select open.
now it will open a separate project.
Now select crop tool from the toolbar or use shortcut press ‘c’ on your keyboard, now a grid will appear on your layer
now select one of his points and resize to an area you want to crop or select your layer then draw a rectangle to an area you want to crop and then press enter.
Select the move tool and select file from the menu bar and then select save(smart-object) or press ‘v’ on your keyboard and then use shortcut press ‘ctrl+s’ on your keyboard and it will save changes that we just made inside the smart-object layer. Now go back to your main project and you will see that your layer is now cropped not the whole project.
Method 2
This method is very simple than the first one selects the rectangle selection or use the keyboard shortcut ‘M’ and
hold left mouse click and draw to an area you want to crop and then
go to the bottom right corner of the interface and select the add raster mask icon
now only that single layer is cropped that you selected earlier.
When to use the crop tool:
I have this laptop vector image here and I have mine pic too so now let’s copy the profile image by selecting layer and goto edit from the menu bar and select copy or just use shortcut press ‘ctrl+c’
and then go to the laptop vector image project
then paste the profile picture goto to edit from the menu bar and select paste or use shortcut press ‘ctrl+v’
now check the transform control and resize the profile image.
Now press ctrl+alt+mouse scroll to zoom in on the project and drop down the opacity of the profile image to see the background
now select the rectangle selection tool and draw an area you want to crop
and add a raster mask and
now bring the opacity to 100.
Another example of crop single layer:
Now I have an amazing outdoor landscape wallpaper here first let’s duplicate this layer, just select the layer right click on the layer, and select duplicate layer or just use keyboard shortcut press ‘ctrl+j’
and goto to image from the menu bar and select adjustment and then select hue/saturation or just press keyboard shortcut ‘ctrl+u’
and for this image, I’m going to type -100 in saturation.
Now select the first layer and select the rectangle selection tool and now I’m going to select the half of this image and then add a raster mask.
So this is how you can crop a single layer in photopea. These methods work in both Photopea and Photoshop since Photopea is an alternative to Photoshop.
